Located in the south of the Malay Peninsula, Singapore is a city-state that gained independence from the UK in 1965. A popular destination in southeast Asia, it is often a stopover from international destinations due to the size and connectivity of Singapore Changi Airport. With many people only spending a few days in the country it is important to make the most of your time there. In this blog we’re giving you some of the must see and do’s when there so you can experience everything this amazing place has to offer. 1 - Visit Marina BayOne of the most iconic locations in Singapore, the Marina Bay area stands out thanks to its numerous architectural marvels. Central to the district is the Marina Bay Sands, a luxury 5* hotel with hundreds of rooms offering stunning views of the city skyline and the bay. It is so much more than a hotel though, with shops, restaurants and even a museum on the complex. You cannot forget the SkyPark Observation Deck, appearing as if a cruise ship was balanced on the top of the three skyscrapers, this viewing platform offers breathtaking views across the city and bay in a beach club setting with infinity pools, sun loungers and bars. Also within the district is the stunning Gardens by the Bay. An urban landscaping project, the gardens are complimented by a series of towering metal ‘supertrees’ whose trunks are coated by roughly 200 species of orchids, ferns and other tropical plants. The canopy walk allows you to walk on an elevated platform than runs between these 'supertrees' offering a truly unique view. Alongside these are the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, two gigantic greenhouses housing a forest in one and a range of tropical plants in the other. You cannot also forget the ArtScience Museum whose eye-catching design houses exhibits in science and technology. 2 - Party on SentosaA small island connected to the south coast of Singapore, Sentosa has lots to do for all ages, but it also known for its nightlife, which is some of the best in Singapore. The island is home to lots of bars and restaurants to enjoy. One of our Chosen Ones for Singapore – The Outpost Hotel, Sentosa is home to the island's first day-to-night lifestyle destination, 1-Altitude Coast, making it the perfect place to stay on Sentosa. Alongside the nightlife, Sentosa has plenty of things to see and do. There are several gorgeous sandy beaches in the south of the island and the island’s western half houses Universal Studios Singapore, a casino, an aquarium and a waterpark just to name a few. 3 - Explore the DistrictsSingapore is a cultural melting pot of diverse and wonderful sights and smells. This in part means that the range of food on offer is spectacular, with many tourists visit solely for the food. Be guided by your stomach as you explore these cultures in Singapore’s many distinctive districts, the most well-known of which are Chinatown and Little India. Look further than these two and discover more than just food. Gaze at the colourful neighbourhood of Kampong Galm in Singapore's Muslim quarter or discover Peranakan culture in Katong-Joo Chiat. 4 - Learn more about Singapore's HistorySingapore’s long history reaches back at least a millennium and much of its contemporary history can still be found across the city, especially in its variety of temples and churches. Thian Hock Keng the oldest Chinese temple in Singapore, the Hindu temple of Sri Mariamman or St Andrew’s Cathedral are just some of the places where you can learn and explore more about the different cultures that have called Singapore home. For a more encompassing education visit the National Museum of Singapore which since it first opened in 1849 has put on exhibitions showcasing the country’s history, culture and people. Visit Singapore ZooSpread across 86 acres, Singapore Zoo offers an amazing experience day or night with over 3,600 animals of 130 species split into environmental zones. Excellent during the day, for a more unique experience come back in the evening when it offers a night safari showcasing the over 900 nocturnal animals that live at the zoo. We hope that this has been a good taster of what Singapore has to offer and what some its best attractions are.
