A large country with beautiful beaches and excellent resorts, with the Caribbean Sea on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other, wherever you want to go in Mexico, you can be assured of good weather making it perfect for a winter holiday. When thinking of beach holidays in Mexico people often think of Cancun, but there is much more variety to be found. So come with us as well tell you more about the best places for a beach holiday in Mexico. Riviera Maya Riviera Maya is a term used to refer to the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. Including resorts such as Cancun and Playa Del Carmen, Riviera Maya is the most popular area for people to go for beach resorts, especially with UK tourists who often want the ease and shorter flight time of the east coast of Mexico. Cancun The most famous of Mexico’s beach resorts, Cancun has developed from a small fishing town to a massive resort made up primarily of two zones, the downtown area and the hotel zone. The downtown area has everything you could want from a resort with loads of shops, eateries, malls and more. This makes Cancun the perfect place if you are wanting to do things outside your hotel. One of our ‘Chosen Ones’ TRS Coral is located just outside Cancun, perfect if you want space and quiet but also be near to a bustling centre. Playa Del Carmen An hour south of Cancun, Playa Del Carmen is much smaller and quieter than Cancun (which is also the case for almost every other resort on this list). It still has the gorgeous soft white sand beaches you are looking for and many luxury all-inclusive resorts. If you are looking for an all-inclusive property where you can stay within your hotel, then Playa Del Carmen is perfect for that. The other of our two ‘Chosen Ones’ for Mexico, TRS Yucatan and the Grand Palladium Colonial Resort & Spa are located south of Playa Del Carmen. Cozumel The largest of Mexico’s Caribbean islands, Cozumel provides a more relaxing and authentic experience. There are still many international hotel brands that can cater to your every need but the main reason many choose Cozumel over other resorts in Riviera Maya is its excellent diving spots. Crystal clear Caribbean waters and massive coral reefs make diving in Cozumel amazing for beginners and experienced divers alike. We don’t just sell our ‘Chosen Ones’ though, for great hotels in Cozumel we recommend checking out are The Westin Cozumel, Cozumel Palace All Inclusive Resort and Melia Cozumel. Western Mexico Western Mexico provides more diversity and choice in its resorts, with each town providing something different. Here the white Caribbean beaches of Riviera Maya give way to the golden sands of Mexico’s Pacific coast. Los Cabos The most popular of Western Mexico’s resorts, Los Cabos is famous for its arching stone cliffs, golden sand beaches and bustling centre. Alongside excellent luxury hotels, it offers plenty to do both in and out of the city. A buzzing marina, great restaurants and tons of shops and souvenir malls ensure you’ll never be short of things to do. Great hotels in Los Cabos to check out are Pueblo Bonito Rose Resort & Spa and the Bahia Hotel & Beach House. Puerto Vallarta Located in Jalisco in the central region of Mexico, Puerto Vallarta sits on Banderas Bay and backs onto the Sierra Madre mountains. Like many of Mexico’s west coast resorts, Puerto Vallarta has grown more organically over time and has a more traditional vibe. Great for laid back exploring, check out the Old Town or take a visit to its neighbour Nuevo Vallarta which has a great marina and lots of golf courses. Great hotels in this resort stretch across state lines into Nayarit up to Punta Mita. Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa, W Punta de Mita and Hotel Riu Jalisco are good hotels to stay in here. Zihuatanejo Home to a great laid-back vibe, gorgeous stretches of sandy beach and waters teeming with marine life, Zihuatanejo is an excellent choice for a Mexico beach holiday. With plenty to do in the city you have the choice to do a lot or make the most of the city’s relaxed atmosphere and get some much needed R&R time. Good hotels to stay in here are Cala de Mar Resort & Spa Ixtapa, Las Palmas Luxury Villas and Club Med Ixtapa Pacific, Mexico. Mazatlan Combining 20km of golden sandy beaches, a historic centre and a number of high-end hotels, Mazatlan has regained the allure that it used to have back in the mid-20th century. The picturesque old town features lots of gorgeous buildings such as churches and plazas. Stretching out from the old town is the promenade which makes for an excellent place to take in a sunset. Inviting hotels such as Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan Beach Resort, Hotel Riu Emerald Bay and Park Inn Hotel By Radisson sit next to the scenic marinas and golf courses on the outskirts.
